Sample from my latest shoot

After a long and tiring day yesterday for myself, my photographer, and make up artist, we produced what I hope is very unique to the fitness industry.

We commenced with hair and make up at 8am, and then with the first shoot of the day at Nitro Gym (my second home).. What I thought would be an easy one hour shoot ended up taking all morning and into the afternoon.

An unplanned and unexpected Lamborghini shoot took place outside the gym, and then after an extensive make over we were off to North Melbourne at 4pm for our final shoot for the day.

Here is just one sample photograph from yesterdays shoot. I am very excited with the quality and imagery produced and cannot wait to share them with everyone. It has been a very long road, and emotional journey, but after seeing results like this, it is well worth all the sacrifice, and the hard work I have put in.

Finally! A weight loss miracle...Its called eating healthy and exercising!!

It amazes me how far some people will go in a bid to lose weight, in the quickest and easiest way possible. If these same people actually invested their time in eating healthier and exercising on a regular basis, not only will they achieve their desired results, but will be able to permanently stick with their healthier lifestyle habits.

I mean, the 'ab circle pro' sure does look like a fantastic means to lose that tyre around   the mid section that has accumulated over the years. Look how trim and toned the people in the commercials are! And i only need to use it for a few minutes a day. How easy is that! What about the 'fat magnet' powder. Look how fat just clings to it! I wouldn't even need to give up my daily dose of McDonalds.

It's amusing how much money people will spend on gimmicks and miracle weight loss pills, and then complain when all their weight loss efforts fail. Hmmm what could they be doing wrong I wonder?

When I was working in a gym, I had this one slightly overweight gentleman come to me excited about starting his new training and diet regime. He started going over his weights and cardio

To this day I am still in shock, and curious if this man is actually still alive! Now i'm sure most of you have heard of the 21 day detox.process. I have nothing against detoxes, so long as they are done correctly, eating the right foods, none of this only consuming some diluted detox juice thing for two days straight. That's not a detox people, that's STARVING yourself.

Well this lovely, idiotic and naive gentleman had started the 21 day process. Now the 21 day process works on the belief that with the 21 day fast there will be a realignment of the body's energies, and afterwards there is no need for the body to consume any foods, the body will be nourished by cosmic energies. So the way this gentleman explained it to me is think of a sunflower and how they are able to flourish on just water and the suns energy. So we are comparing the human body to that of a flower now. Well my initial response to hearing this... Sooooo you're starving yourself? And the further he tried explaining himself, and how A Current Affair did a report on this diet and it really works, the angrier I actually became with his stupidity. So of course the second I got home I jumped on the net to research this 21 day process that was apparently on A Current Affair.

Not to bore you by going in to too much detail, but the 21 Day process is divided into 3 parts of seven days each. In the first week the person doesn't consume ANY foods or liquids. In the second week the person can consume water and 25% juice (3 parts water + 1 part juice), and in the third week the person can consume water and 40% juice. In this time there is to be no influences from the outside world, tv, telecommunications etc. You spend many hours of the day meditating in the sun, and connected to a drip. If you haven't gathered, this isn't a diet, or the 21 day detox A Current Affair broad casted. No this is based on deep beliefs of spiritual evolution that we can learn to live on Prana (living on light).

So this gentleman must have seen something on A Current Affair about a 21 day detox, googled it, clicked on 21 day process and naively thought this was it.

Which brings me to my next question... what is wrong with good old fashioned healthy eating and exercise!!

Really people, it's not that scary, and once you get started and begin seeing results, it can actually be quite enjoyable! Stop fooling yourselves with all these fad diets and gimmicks, and get serious

.Set realistic goals and STICK with it
Whether your goal is to lose weight, increase fitness, improve health or gain muscle, it is important to set yourself specific and realistic goals to avoid feeling disheartened at the lack of results and give up. Gaining 20kilos of lean muscle mass in a month is NOT realistic. (No offense to my brother). But aiming for a kilo a week of fat loss is achievable. Keep in mind these things do take time, and every week won't always be a good week, but CONSISTENCY is key. Don't feel disheartened if you lost 2 kilos the previous week, and only half a kilo the following. Women especially, our weight will fluctuate due to hormones, water etc. Nothing worthwhile is ever achieved by giving up so stick with the goals set and enjoy the healthy lifestyle change and the journey.

Plan ahead
We all have busy lifestyles, but by learning to plan your regime and meals ahead, you will find it easier to follow through with the goals you have set for yourself. Something as simple as planning what days to wake up that bit earlier for cardio, what nights to train weights, and planning your meals ahead for the following day or week can be the difference between a successful healthier lifestyle change, or a relapse into your old habits

Keep a food diary
Keeping a food diary and recording everything you are consuming on a daily basis and when, can give you a better understanding of your eating habits, why you are gaining weight, and can help identify the changes in your diet that need to be made to achieve your goals. Be honest with yourself, just because you didn't write down that block of chocolate you ate doesn't mean it didn't happen.

3 Gimmick free and easy steps to kick start your fitness goals. The only thing holding you back is YOU so stop with the excuses and start making changes.

From adversity comes greatness...

Well seeing as this is my very first blog I figured I should give you a proper introduction.

No point in boring you with the standard athlete talk. Might as well get into the nitty gritty!

Yes I always played sports from a young age, but had never anticipated recognition as an athlete, let alone as a bodybuilder, especially when I hadn't even known bodybuilding was a sport. But here I am, fitness model, body sculptor, just trying to accomplish my dream of competing.

It's funny hearing male friends constantly tell me that I was hotter when I was 'skinny', but ironically, I feel the most beautiful now than what I ever have. Maybe it's because I no longer see myself as that same weak child who fell victim to bullying and sexual abuse throughout her teenage years. The child who would cry for her mother every night when she fell asleep. The child who packed her bags at the age of 18 and walked out her parents door one morning after they left for work to try and escape her problems. Looking back it's weird to think how training helped me overcome my self esteem issues and depression, brought on by childhood events, losing my mother at a young age, bullying, the psycho ex boyfriend.

But for the first time in years, I don't feel the need to cover my legs in board shorts at the beach, I feel sexy and feminine wearing a dress and I am completely confident and content with myself, physically and emotionally.

3 years ago I wanted a change. I wanted to change the way I saw myself. The hardest thing for many woman with low self esteem is that first time they set foot in a gym, and I was never overweight, and considered beautiful, however it was just as hard for me as it was for anyone else.. But with the physical changes suddenly came the mental changes, the emotional strength, focus, the power to believe in myself. And what do you know, a few months later I step into a club, approached by the owner who loved my look and BAM. All of a sudden I am an Ironman Magazine Wet'n Wild calendar model. Within months I had a 2 page spread in Australian Ironman magazine, as well as a separate feature in a later issue, and 2 separate magazine covers.

I literally stumbled in the fitness industry.

Having competed once 3 years ago now, I realised I loved the stage. Since, I have been heavily involved in my training, tweaking my physique for when I believe it is ready for the stage. And now I am 12 weeks out of the WBFF World Championships in Canada, personally invited by former IFBB Pro, Paul Dillet.

So that's a little insight into who I really am.

Hope you enjoyed my first blog. There will be regular updates on my competition progress, dieting, upcoming photo shoots and features.

Keep a look out for my next write up in next months Australian Ironman magazine.
